One in two people will have cancer at some point in their lives. Exercise has been proven to help reduce the threat of cancer, but what happens when you do have cancer? At Enjoy Fitness we are experiencing more and more clients either coming to us with cancer or for post-treatment cancer care. To be better informed on how to help these clients I have just completed an exercise and cancer course through Fitness Professionals (UK).

Following completion of the course we were invited by Portsmouth NHS trust to present to 30 women with metastatic breast cancer on how to start exercising with cancer and the benefits to them. It was apparent from the presentation that there is a lot of fear around starting exercise during or post – treatment. There are no UK guidelines about exercising with cancer, but several studies have shown that exercise is safe, possible and helpful for many people with cancer. As part of our on-going development in to rehabilitation we hope that Enjoy Fitness Studio can take away any fear through our personal approach to reduce the barriers for people with cancer to exercise.
